Korean spinach side dish

This is a very simple, easy and quick Korean side dish. It is not only that but it’s also very yummy and healthy. For one it is full of iron, the spinach. On the other hand the raw garlic is  good for killing bad bacteria. Do try it out….

1 bunch of spinach, cleaned and washed

1 garlic clove, minced

1 spring onion, chopped

1½ -2 teaspoon soy sauce

1½ – 2 teaspoon sesame oil

2 teaspoon sesame seeds


Boil 8 of water in a large pot.

Blanch the spinach for 30 seconds to a minute, stirring with a wooden spoon.

Strain the spinach and rinse in cold water a couple of times to remove any residual dirt.

Squeeze out excess water and cut into 3 sections.

Mix the spinach with garlic, green onion, soy sauce, sesame oil, and sesame seeds in a mixing bowl by hand.

Transfer to a plate or bowl and serve as a side with other mains and steam rice.


Fried Rice Vermicelli (Keng Chai Fun)

Fried Rice Vermicelli

I’m cooking the bihun with very little ingredients as I’m trying to do it the way I used to eat when I’m young. When I was little I will follow my mom to the morning market and this is one of my favourite. We call it economical noodles, (keng chai fun) and that’s why it only require limited ingredients. Is really simple and nice… Enjoy!! 


– Rice Vermicelli (Bihun)

  (soak in water for 15 minutes before drained) 400g

– Oyster Mushroom 250gm (tear to smaller pieces)

– Bean Sprouts 150g

– Garlic (minced) 4 cloves

– Oil For Cooking 4 tbsp


– Water 300ml seasoning

– Thick Soya Sauce 1 tbsp

– Light Soya Sauce 4 tbsp

– White Pepper A dash

– Sesame Oil 1 tsp

– Salt to taste


Cooking Method

Heat wok with oil for cooking. Add garlic and Sauté until fragrant.

Add mushroom and stir fry for 2 minutes. Then, add rice vermicelli. Add water and seasoning. Continue to stir fry until well mixed.

Add bean sprouts and stir well. Garnish with vegetables or red chilies.

Ginger and lemongrass tea

Ginger has many medical uses, from relieving migraine and arthritis pain to preventing and cure cancers.

 Lemongrass are used for cough, sore throats, Anxiety and depression, Digestion, Dry skin and acne, Constipation, Kidney detoxification and a lot more.

These two useful herbs  can  be use to brew tea for it health benefits. This herbal tea has a strong ability to make you relaxed and it is very easy to prepare. Aside from that it smells great.

 6 stalks Lemongrass

1 big Fresh ginger

Pandan leaves, tied in a knot

Water, 1 litre

honey rock sugar


Slightly smash the peeled ginger . 

Crush lemongrass and cut them into short stalk.
Add lemongrass, ginger and pandan leaves into a pot, then bring to boil and simmer for around an hour.
Add honey rock sugar to taste and drink.
You can enjoy it hot or cold. It is so refreshing and tasty. 😍😍😍


Cheese and ham toast

2 meeku, bun or 4 slices of bread


2eggs with salt and pepper to taste

Slice Cheese 


Beat 2 eggs and add salt and pepper to taste. Cut the bun into two and dip it into the egg mixture. 

Next  spray some oil on a frying pan and transfer the bread in for a minute and flip it to cook for another minute.

 Remove from heat and place a slice of ham and cheese on one side and cover it with another piece of bread.

 Return it to the pan, low heat and cook for another minute and flip it to brown the other side for another minute or till cheese melted . 

Transfer to a plate, garnish and it is ready to eat…. Simple, easy and yummy!!! Enjoy!!!

Stir fried Chinese cabbage

Half a Chinese cabbage (cut 1.5 inch apart)

2-3 pcs chili padi (cut length wise and removed the seed)

3 clove of garlic (sliced)

1-2 tsp of soy sauce

Salt ( half a teaspoon) and pepper to taste


Heat two tbsp of oil in a wok. When the oil is hot add in the garlic and stir fry till fragrant.

Add Chinese cabbage, soy sauce,  salt and pepper to taste and 1/2 a small bowl of water . Add chili Padi. Cook till cabbage is soft about   5 mins. 

Dish out and garnish with sesame. I’ve also added some store bought jellyfish to compliment this dish. It is chewy and have a nice crunch to it. Is pairs well with the sweet Chinese cabbage. Yum…yum..

Honey Coffee Cake Slices

4egg whites

 70gm of brown sugar

4gm instant coffee powder

4egg yolks

30gm honey

90gm low protein flour

Cream mixture

100gm fresh cream (whipped)

1/2 tsp instant coffee powder ( mixed with a tbsp of water )


Preheat oven to 170*c . Line a baking tray with baking paper . 10x14in.

Whisk egg white till soft peak.

Gradually add in sugar and whisk till stiff peaks

Mix coffee powder with water till combine. Then stir into egg white mixture.

Next add in egg yolk and honey. Mix well.

Fold in flour and pour it into prepared tray. Bake for 12-15 mins or until it is lightly brown.

Cream mixture- whip the fresh cream and coffee  till soft peak 

Cut the cake into half .spread the cream and sandwich  together.

Garnish with waffle stick

Slice and serve

Claypot Chicken Rice With Rice Cooker


2 cups rice

1 spring chicken or a small chicken around 1kg, chopped

1 stalk scallion, chopped (optional)

3 inches ginger (peel the skin and cut into thin slices)

6 shitake mushrooms (soak in hot water for 30 minutes and cut into thick strips)

1/2 a small piece of salted fish (cut into small pieces) optional

2 Chinese sausage (sliced) – optional

Seasoning for chicken:
2 tablespoons oyster sauce

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1/2 teaspoon corn starch

1/2 teaspoon sesame oil

salt and pepper to taste

1/4 teaspoon sugar

1 tablespoon Shaoxing cooking wine 
Seasoning for rice:
2 tablespoons soy sauce

1/2 tablespoon dark soy sauce

2 teaspoons cooking oil

a pinch of salt
1)Chop the chicken into pieces.(16pieces)

2)Add the chicken seasoning and mix well. Marinate for an hour 

3)Rinse and clean the rice in a rice cooker as you normally do but reduce half a bowl of water 

4)Add the rice seasoning and cooking oil into the rice and start cooking the rice.

5)At the same time, heat up a wok with some cooking oil. Fry the salted fish and set aside. 

6) Keep the oil and stir fry the garlic and ginger till fragrant. Next add in the chicken, chinese sausage and shitake mushrooms.

7) Quickly stir-fry the chicken until half-cooked. Dish out and set aside.

8)Add the chicken mixture and salted fish into the rice cooker when the rice is almost dry (about 10minutes) and continue to cook till rice is completely cooked.

9)Leave the rice cooker on “Stay Warm” for 15 – 20 mintues before serving.

10)Top the chicken rice with scallion and serve immediately.

Aloe Vera cooling drink

This drink is a healthy dessert. It is loaded with vitamins and minerals and in Traditional Chinese Medicine, most of the ingredients possess the cooling effects .

Red dates are a good source of iron, bittersweet almond , fig and white fungus for lungs and skin.Aloe Vera is good for your digestive system, assist in constipation and also a great aid to improve your skin texture.

This drink is light, sweet, crunchy, and especially suitable for ladies. It is also a good choice for our hot season. Ingredients can be adjusted to personal prefrences. It should be taken in moderation as too much aloe vera can be laxative. 

2 large blade of aloe vera – cut into cubes

2 screwpine leaves – tie into a knot

2 pieces of white fungus ( suet yee) – soaked for 5 mins, cleaned and tear into small pieces

1 cup of dried longan

1 cup of winter melon sugar ( or rock sugar, cane sugar)

2 litre of water

5 pieces of red dates

2pieces of golden dates

4pieces of semi dry or dry fig (optional)

1/2cup of bittersweet almond, optional ( nam hang, pak hang)

Pour 2litre of water into a soup pot , add in the screwpines and everything else except the aloe vera. Boil for half an hour.  Add in the aloe vera cubes and boil for another 15mins and off the heat. When the liquid has cooled down, chilled them in the fridge for 4hours before serving.

Steam garlic pork

Here’s a very easy and yummilicious dish that’s perfect with white rice. All you need is some pork belly, marinates, garlic and a steamer.

300-400gm of pork belly with skin
2tbsp soya sauce
1tbsp Chinese Wine
2-3clove of garlic crushed n leave it whole
A little bit of salt and pepper.

Marinate the pork belly with all the above ingredients and leave it for half an hour. After that steam it for 20mins. When is ready, let it cool before cutting. Try to cut it as thin as possible. Arrange it nicely and pour all the liquid evenly on to the sliced pork and discard the whole garlic.

In a pan heat up some oil and add 2-3clove of diced garlic. Fried the garlic till brown. Pour the sizzling oil n garlic over the sliced pork belly and add another tsp of soya sauce over it. Done…Bon appetite!!!
